PGRC Half Marathon (w/10-miler) training  


Program Dates: Dec. 15, 2009 - March 20/21, 2010

 

Goal races:  Feb. 22 at MDRRCA Club Challenge 10-miler (qualifying times apply) or other 10-miler; March 20 at National Half (qualifying times apply) or March 21 at Shamrock Half in VA Beach or other half marathon.

 

Prerequisites 

-          Running at least six months

-          Mileage 10-15 miles per week for last month

-          Long run at least 5 miles 

 

Workouts (weather permitting)

      -   Tuesday track workout, 6:30pm, Largo, MD

      -   Saturday long runs, 8:00am, Greenbelt, MD

 

Coaches

Elaine Bond: Elaine is an enthusiastic recreational runner who has recently completed her first marathon after numerous 5ks, 10ks, 10-milers and half marathons. She is a Certified Personal Trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) and holds a Bachelors Degree in Physiology and Sports Science. Being fresh off the boat from Scotland, Elaine thrives during the winter training months and running has become a strong passion of hers. Elaine will be running the National Half in March.

 

Kim Ossi: Kim started running in 2000 to lose weight and has been running recreationally ever since. She is a certified RRCA running coach and is certified in First Aid and CPR. Kim worked with the 2009 Running Start program and fall 5k program as a pace leader. She has completed many 5ks, 10ks and 10-milers and two half marathons. Kim is planning on running the Shamrock Half in March.

 

Charles Outlaw: Charles running while serving 8 years in the military. After an extensive absence from any type of cardio, he joined the PGRC Running Start program in 2008 to get back in shape. He completed the 5k and advanced 5k programs, and was a pace group leader for the 2009 Running Start and fall 10k program. Since his return to running, he's competed in several 5k races. Charles is a certified RRCA running coach and is certified in First Aid and CPR.

 

Arneda Terry: Arneda started running with the Running Start program in June 2008 and had never run prior to that. Since then she's run many 5ks and has been a pace group leader for the 2009 Running Start program and the fall 10k program.

 

JoAnn Thomas: JoAnn is a certified RRCA running coach and is certified in First Aid and CPR and a certified fitness instructor. She has assisted with the Running Start programs for the past two years.

 

 

Fee:  $40 (In addition, all registrants must be members of the Prince Georges Running Club. If you are not already a member, you may join when you register for the program.) Fee includes coached training program, cross-training information, entry into the MDRRCA Club Challenge and a training program-themed hat/ear warmer/technical shirt (vote your preference at sign-up). Program limited to 30 entrants, so register early!

 

Note-The training fee does NOT include your race registration (other than the Club Challenge). You must register for all other races on your own. Please be aware that these races may fill up ahead of time.

 

 

PGRC reserves the right to refuse to coach anyone who the coaches believe could be injured in the training program or who does not meet the minimum training requirements.
