Beginning Women's Running Program

April 17-June 19, 2010

The PGRC Beginning Women's Program for women is a group-focused, beginning running program for adult women of all ages and abilities who would like to experience the fun and health benefits of running, or combined running and walking. It can serve as the start of a healthier lifestyle, or entry into the sport of competitive road, track, and trail racing. Our experience has shown that some women may appreciate a smaller program with sessions specifically geared to the needs of the beginning woman runner. The Beginning Women’s Runner Program will begin on Saturday, April 17 and the graduation race will be held on Saturday, June 19, 2010. The goal of this training program is to train to complete a 3.1 mile (5 kilometer, or 5k) distance on graduation day. This program will guide participants from a walk/run format to a 30 minute nonstop run. Each weekly session will include a Saturday session and a weeknight session. The program will address the specific needs of the beginning woman runner. First-timers are welcome. Veteran runners who have not been active and want to get back into form are also welcome. The only requirement for program participation is the willingness to come out to the weekly sessions on Saturdays (at a minimum) and (schedule permitting) to participate in Tuesday night track workouts. The head coach for the beginning women’s program is Deirdre Francis, a certified running coach and former head coach for PGRC’s fall, 2008 and fall 2009 10k Training Program and coach for 2007, 2008 and 2009 Running Start Programs.
